PRESS RELEASE!!!!

USA GETS 3 IPP INVITATIONS THIS SUMMER!

That’s right!  Due to USA enthusiasm, we actually have a choice of THREE wonderful opportunities for IPP this year.   APPLICATION DEADLINE IS DECEMBER 31.  NOTIFICATION OF SELECTION WILL BE SENT OUT BY FEBRUARY 15.

WHAT IS IPP?  IPP stands for International People’s Project, and is the adult activity for CISVers.  It is for people who are 19 years old and up (No upper age limit).  Yes, Grandma, that means you, too.  IPP is a three-tiered project: service work, education, and fun.  IPP typically lasts two to three weeks, so that adults can find the time off work to participate.  The price is the cost of your plane fare plus $112 for insurance.  Each IPP works in partnership with a local non-profit organization to perform a community service project.  The educational component is related to that project theme.  Some themes are “people” oriented, and some are “thing” oriented.  They often request specific skills or interests or training from the volunteers.  There will be three delegates sent to each IPP from the USA.  Click on CISV.ORG/IPP for more info.

So, if any of the following are right for you, and you want the opportunity to spend two to three weeks doing something meaningful and making new friends, learning new things, and having fun, contact Kathy LaCombe at lacombek@wowway.com, or phone 734-667-3156.  Applications are available on line at cisv.org/ipp/documents.  Scroll down to forms and click on Application 2000.

GERMANY - AUGUST 18-SEPTEMBER 1, 2007:  THEME:  Ecology vs. Economy – Challenge or Opportunity?

Location:  Hallig Hooge, Germany

Abstract:  This IPP will be the sequel to the IPP Wattenmeer that took place 2 years ago.  As in 2005, staff and participants of this IPP will be living in a house on “Hallig Hooge” which is a tiny island near the coast in the North Sea.  It’s located in a protected area in the middle of the “Wattenmeer” (tideland), a unique ecosystem all along the coastline of the Netherlands, Germany and Denmark.  Participants will be working on various projects together with an organization called “Schutzstation Wattenmeer” which has the aim to protect and raise awareness about the area.  The region is also an increasingly popular area for tourists, which puts the protection of the environment up against economic interests.  During the educational part, participants will present examples from their countries of conflicts between economy and nature conservation, and possibly interesting solutions to this dilemma.

USA – JULY 7 – JULY 29, 2007:  THEME:  Expression of Freedom – Cross-Cultural Dialogue Through the Arts.

Location:  Cincinnati, Ohio

Abstract:  The National Underground Railroad Freedom Center (NURFC) was created as both a historical museum about the period of slavery in the US and also as a community center and research facility concerning all aspects of freedom issues around the world.  The NURFC is passionate about crating communities who are searching for liberation from the six "Unfreedoms”:  Slavery, Hunger, Illiteracy, Tyranny, Racism, and Genocide.  Dialogue between races and genders, across cultural lines and between age groups are often better enhanced by the integration of various arts mediums.  Through the multiple cultural aspects of art – be it painting, textiles, music, dance, photography, the written word or others – the group will be able to share experiences and insights into the selected topics of worldwide slavery and freedom issues.  IPPers will use these six NURFC “Unfreedoms” as an initial discussion point as the delegates (under the guidance of local artists) create unique arts presentations.  At the completion of this IPP it is hoped that these displays or presentations will become a permanent part of the NURFC and Museum exhibits.  Delegates will also have the opportunity to return home with tangible results of their creations.

SPAIN – JULY 6-27, 2007:  THEME:  Building Bridges to Integration

Location:  Madrid

Abstract:  The goal of this project will be to work for the personal and social development of handicapped people, removing the obstacles they are used to finding everyday, to integrate themselves in the society through leisure, playing, fun and the comprehension of their reality.  The IPP participants will have the opportunity of sharing the daily life of handicapped people and they will present how the theme of this project is handled in their own country.  During the three weeks of the IPP, the participants will integrate themselves and will relate with handicapped people and their families.  They will develop activities for them in cooperation with CISV Madrid and the two partner organizations.
