Jean Bitner and I represented BV and the USA at the 2018 CISV Global Conference in Eindhoven, Netherlands. Along with 525 other CISVers from 64 other countries, we shared best practices, new ideas, made new friends and had fun.
“The Notorious RBG” (Ruth Bader Ginsburg), a CISVer in her own right and co-founder of the New York CISV chapter, opened the conference remotely with a personal welcome. Inspiration to grow was derived from a talk by Mark Kielburger, co-founder of the mega-movement Me to We, whose mission is to empower communities to elevate themselves out of poverty.
The five-day conference was filled with seminars on fundraising, “friendraising” through the recently launched CISV Alumni Association, diversity, gender identity and sexual orientation issues, risk management and much more.
While each chapter is different, we all share the same challenges of recruitment, fundraising and engagement of volunteers. We are all CISVers working toward creating a more just and peaceful world.
