The Reach for Peace Fundraiser held on November 3rd was a wonderful success!
More than 100 people attended and enjoyed a delicious Middle Eastern banquet, an engaging speaker (Tariq Selim, from the Islamic Society of Chester County), as well as Silent and Live Auctions. We raised over $10,000 to help fund the Youth Meeting that we are hosting next summer, a camp that will teach 36 kids from around the world how to become effective change agents in their communities.
New at the fundraiser this year, we held our “Big Reveal” in which we described the travel programs we will be sending BVers to next year. Leveraging the technology of Kahoot!, an online, interactive quiz game, we tested people’s knowledge about the world as we revealed our 2019 camps. Everyone pulled out their cellphones to answer trivia questions about the nine locales where our travel programs will be held.
Conferring with friends and family, participants guessed which country eats the most Mac and Cheese and which country is nicknamed “Land of the Parrots,” among other fun trivia. Kate Shryock took an early lead in the game, but was beat out by a mysterious CISVer whom we believe was Mr. Knapp.
This year we will be sending kids to programs in Norway, Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Mexico, and Austria! Check out the full list, access the application and check out all the BV programs for 2019 here.
Thank you to all those who came out and participated to raise money for this summer’s youth meeting.
